Free, Direct Transit Service to the Fair
Turlock Transit will be providing free transportation to the general public on all fixed routes during the entire month of July 2019 as part of a free fare promotion. This promotion includes all four regional transit operators (CAT, MAX, StaRT, and Turlock Transit). Turlock Transit will also be providing enhanced transit services directly to the Stanislaus County Fair Arch Gate July 12-21, 2019.
Shuttle buses will operate 4:30-11:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12:00-11:30 p.m. on weekends.
The Fair is excited and thankful to partner with the Turlock’s Transit system once again,” said Matt Cranford, CEO of the Stanislaus County Fair. “We are also thankful that the transit system was able to approve a drop off at our Arch Gate.”
Who is eligible to ride?
Where do I board the bus?
Arrivals: Board any fixed route bus in Turlock (for free), or utilize regional transit to travel to Turlock (for free), and arrive at the Roger K. Fall Transit Center. Upon arrival, transfer (for free) to a Fair shuttle bus at the Transit Center, with buses arriving every 10 minutes. The shuttle will drop off attendees directly at the Fairgrounds Arch Gate on N. Broadway.
Departures: Board the shuttle bus at the Fairgrounds Arch Gate and return to the Transit Center. Transfer to a local or regional bus service to complete your trip home.
When does the shuttle operate?
The Fair shuttle will operate on all ten (10) days of the Fair, from Friday, 7/12/19 to Sunday, 7/21/19. The first shuttle will leave the Transit Center at 4:30 p.m. on weekdays (12:00 p.m. on weekends) and the last shuttle will leave the Fairgrounds at 11:30 p.m. (all days). All regular Turlock Transit routes will operate on extended hours (until midnight) as well, ensuring attendees can transfer to/from the shuttle bus to complete their trips.
Roger K. Fall Transit Center
The Transit Center will be open for extended hours (until midnight) each day of the Fair. This will provide passengers with access to the air conditioned lobby to escape the heat, as well as access to restrooms and drinking fountains. The Transit Center is monitored by private security 24/7.
No General Fund monies will be used to provide this service. No fares will be charged to passengers to use this service.
Funding for the system-wide, free ride promotion is made available through funding from the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP), Local Transportation Funds (LTF), and FTA Section 5307 federal transit funds. LCTOP seeks to fund projects that encourages the use of public transit and improve air quality, particularly for transit services that benefit disadvantaged communities. Funding for enhanced services to the Fair is supported through the same State and Federal funding sources, as well as a transit funding agreement between the City of Turlock and the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.
ADA Paratransit (Dial-a-Ride)
The free ride promotions are provided for fixed route buses only. Other transit services, such as Dial-a-Ride, are available during the extended hours specified above, but at the regular, published rates. Eligible passengers can make a reservation on Dial-a-Ride by calling (209) 668-5600 at least one day prior to the scheduled trip.
