Human trafficking in the Central Valley, and across the nation, is on the rise. Increasingly traffickers are using public transit to transport victims. We’ve already taken initial steps to “put the brakes on human trafficking” on Turlock Transit in support of the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) initiative. We are working with Modesto Area Express - MAX, START,Without Permission, International Rescue Committee in Turlock/Modesto, and the Stanislaus Family Justice Center to deploy a comprehensive education, training, reporting and transportation program for bus drivers and dispatchers. Furthermore, the City has pledged to support the federal efforts of the Transportation Leaders Against Human Trafficking (TLAHT). The TLAHT offers a variety of resources, including anti-human trafficking strategies, training resources, and public awareness materials, which the City will utilize in the roll out of a local program.
