Stanislaus County Region Transit Agencies Offering Free Transit During Rideshare Week
The four transit providers in Stanislaus County, including Ceres Area Transit (CAT), Modesto Area Express (MAX), Stanislaus County Regional Transit (StaRT), and Turlock Transit announced today that all rides on all fixed route buses will be free for passengers during Rideshare Week 2019 (October 6 through 12) as part of a joint, free ride promotion. This includes MAX to BART Commuter Express, MAX to ACE Commuter Express, and StaRT’s BART Commuter bus services, but excludes ADA Paratransit, Medivan, and Dial-a-Ride services.
Beginning Tuesday, 9/3/19, and continuing for a period of approximately two weeks, there will be temporary changes to the location of bus bays for Turlock Transit fixed route services. These changes are related to construction that will be taking place within the center island area to install photovoltaic arrays (solar panels) on top of the shade structures as part of City Project No. 17-51, "Roger K. Fall Transit Center Phase 3 Improvements."
Portions of the area will be closed down intermittently for safety reasons as the City's contractor completes this work. Signs will be posted directing passengers to the temporary bus bays, which will be located adjacent to the Merced "The Bus" bus bay.
There is no construction near the bus bays that serve Stanislaus Regional Transit (StaRT) or Merced's The Bus, so there will be no changes to those bus bay assignments. Any questions regarding this project can be directed to the City's Transit Division by calling (209) 668-5520. Any questions regarding Turlock Transit service can be directed to Turlock Transit by calling (209) 668-5600.

Human trafficking in the Central Valley, and across the nation, is on the rise. Increasingly traffickers are using public transit to transport victims. We’ve already taken initial steps to “put the brakes on human trafficking” on Turlock Transit in support of the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) initiative. We are working with Modesto Area Express - MAX, START,Without Permission, International Rescue Committee in Turlock/Modesto, and the Stanislaus Family Justice Center to deploy a comprehensive education, training, reporting and transportation program for bus drivers and dispatchers.
