The City of Turlock will resume fare collection and front door boarding on all Turlock Transit buses effective Monday, October 12, 2020. Fares will be discounted from the standard fare rates through June 30, 2021.
Turlock Transit will suspend fare collection for fixed route and Dial-a-Ride services during the month of August 2020, allowing passengers to ride for free. This change is being made for several reasons, including:
Regular fare collection is expected to resume on September 1, 2020.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, the Turlock City Council will consider a proposal from the Stanislaus Council of Governments (StanCOG) for the full consolidation of transit services in Stanislaus County. The proposal involves the adoption of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Stanislaus County and the City of Modesto for the development of a new legal entity responsible for governing transit administration countywide.
If approved, the participating jurisdictions would begin forming the Stanislaus Regional Transit Agency (SRTA), a new public agency, governed by representatives from each jurisdiction. The full governance structure would be established through negotiations followed by the transfer of transit assets, including: funding, personnel, vehicles, equipment, and facilities. The SRTA would assume full control of regional transit by July 1, 2021. If rejected, the City of Turlock would not participate in the formation of the SRTA and would retain local control of transit funding, resources, and services. The City would follow the strategy outlined in the Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP) adopted in Feb. 2020. The City would continue to coordinate and collaborate with regional transit agencies, as outlined in the SRTP, to simplify and improve service delivery for local and regional travel. Interested members of the public are welcome to participate in this meeting and provide public comment. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Council meetings at Turlock City Hall will not be physically open to the public. Instead, meetings will be broadcast live on Zoom, YouTube, and Spectrum Channel 2. Members of the public will be provided an opportunity for input by Zoom or by phone by following the instructions on the City of Turlock’s webpage.
