Go Green Week (March 11-16, 2024)

Go Green Week is celebrated in the City of Turlock each March during the week containing St. Patrick's Day. It is a partnership between City staff, Turlock schools, volunteers and eco-friendly businesses. The purpose is to educate the public on steps being taken locally to preserve the environment, as well as encouraging students and all community members to get involved with their own "green" contributions.
Free Rides on Public Transit
Turlock Transit and the Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA) will be providing free, fixed route transit to all members of the public during Go Green Week as part of a joint, free fare promotion. The goal of the joint promotion is to improve air quality through the reduction of single-occupant vehicle trips, reduce congestion and promote increased use of transit throughout the year. Funding for this joint promotion is made available through transit grants, including funding from the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP). Turlock Transit staff will also be engaging with local schools to help educate students on the benefits of public transit and familiarizing them with the buses. During Go Green Week staff and volunteers from the City and eco-friendly organizations visit local schools to reinforce learning that is already taking place in the classroom regarding "green" living. Students are encouraged to participate in a recycling contest, as well as a T-shirt design contest. This year's T-shirt was designed last year by local student Ava Garcia. Students receive on-site educational presentations, as well as provided with opportunities to tour local facilities, such as Turlock Scavenger's recycling facility and the City of Turlock's wastewater treatment facilities. They may even have an opportunity to plant a tree! The goal is to encourage, educate and motivate the next generation towards greater sustainable living. |
