City provides free rides on all Dial-a-Ride and fixed route buses

4/23/2020

Effective immediately, and continuing until further notice, the City of Turlock has suspended the collection of fares on-board all Turlock Transit Dial-a-Ride (ADA paratransit) buses.  This change is related to recently revised direction from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for public agencies, like Turlock, that receive federal transit funding and have suspended fare collection for fixed route services due to COVID-19.
There are no other changes to operating hours or policies for Dial-a-Ride.  Eligible passengers can request a reservation at least one business day in advance of their trip by calling (209) 668-5600 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on any service day (Monday through Saturday).  Turlock Transit can provide trips anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on service days with special operating hours of 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. still available to senior citizens only.

Transit services continue to be provided to the public as one of sixteen identified critical infrastructure sectors.  In an effort to make your trip safer, passengers are encouraged to follow the guidance of public health officials to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, including: staying home if sick, sneezing or coughing into your elbow, washing your hands regularly, and practicing social distancing between yourself and individuals that do not live with you.  Turlock Transit will continue to do its part by practicing social distancing when possible, regularly cleaning and sanitizing buses and transit facilities, and communicating regularly with the public through flyers, website updates, and social media postings.

The loss of fare revenue from this fare suspension will be offset through alternate transit funding sources, including additional federal funding the City is expected to receive through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
